PORTLAND, Ore. — The No. 1 seed Texas women’s basketball team had their season come to an end in the Elite Eight as they fell 76-66 against NC State on Sunday at the Moda Center.
Texas finished the season with a 33-5 overall record. The 33 wins are the most since they went 34-0 and won the national championship in the 1985-86 season. Texas had advanced to the Elite Eight for the third time in the last four seasons.
Freshman Madison Booker led Texas with 17 points, six rebound and five assists. Booker set a new program record for assists by a freshman with a total of 185 for the season. The previous record of 180 was held by Rori Harmon.
Shay Holle played 40 minutes for the 12th time this season and scored 12 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field. Aaliyah Moore scored 10 points and grabbed nine rebounds and Taylor Jones contributed 11 points.
NC State led by as many as 18 in the second quarter with a 40-22 lead at the 3:02 mark of the period. Gisella Maul knocked down a 3-pointer with nine seconds left in the first half to close that gap to 12 at 43-31.
Texas used a 7-0 run in the third quarter and following a Booker basket cut the lead to seven at 51-44. A hook shot by DeYona Gaston pulled Texas to within six at 54-48 with 1:06 to play in the third quarter.
Down by 11 early in the fourth quarter the Longhorns would cut it to seven on a Jones free-throw to make it 65-58 with 4:41 to play in the final period. That would be the closest Texas would get the rest of the way with NC State claiming a 76-66 victory.

• Shaylee Gonzales finished her career with 2,369 points. Gonzales played in 73 games over two seasons for Texas. She scored 814 points in a Longhorn uniform. Gonzales played in 161 collegiate basketball games in her career.
• Khadija Faye played in 64 games for Texas and scored 371 points and grabbed 282 rebounds.
