The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced details of the African Super Championship, which is scheduled to be held this season, in its first edition, with the participation of Al-Ahly of Egypt.
Al-Ahly of Egypt, Esperance of Tunisia, Wydad of Morocco, Simba of Tanzania, Enimba of Nigeria, Petro Atletico of Angola and Mazembe of Congo will participate in the tournament.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) set next September 2 as the date for the tournament draw, at the CAF headquarters in Cairo, at seven in the evening.
The tournament starts with a home-and-away system, so that the competition begins with the knockout quarter-finals, followed by the semi-finals and finals, all of which are played over two matches.
This historic inaugural edition of the African Football League will be held over four weeks, and will start with the opening ceremony and the first match on October 20, 2023 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. November 5 and 11, 2023.
The inaugural AFL League is a precursor to the full edition that will feature the 24 highest-ranked football clubs on the African continent and kick off during the 2024/25 football season.
The final match will be held from November 5 to 11, with a home-and-away system.
And the Confederation of African Football revealed that the 2024/2025 season will feature 24 teams instead of 8 teams.
