Although the Omegle website is still up and running to host Brooks’ statement, the anonymous video chat feature is no longer available. At its peak, Omegle received around 50 million visitors a month.

Brooks, who launched the site at age 18 and funded it independently, expressed concern about the future of the Internet and the lack of opportunities for active participation and genuine human connection.
