His Excellency Ahmed bin Ali Al Sayegh, Minister of State, stressed that the UAE’s participation in the G20 meetings reflects its firm commitment to multilateral cooperation and achieving international priorities in all sectors. This is within the framework of its keenness to actively participate in forums and meetings of international organizations.
In statements he made coinciding with the launch of the G20 summit in India, His Excellency said that the UAE and India are linked by strong bilateral relations with historical roots. The signing of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries in 2017 and the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement in 2022 came within the framework of the two countries’ keenness to support relations and move them to broader horizons.
He praised the support and follow-up enjoyed by relations between the UAE and the Republic of India from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, and Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of the Republic of India, describing multilateral cooperation as an essential part of the vision and strategy of the two countries to advance relations. In this regard, he pointed to the cooperation of the two countries within the Association of States bordering the Indian Ocean (IORA) and within the framework of the “I2U2” group and the BRICS group, which the UAE recently joined.
Al Sayegh explained that with the support of India and the founding countries, the invitation of the UAE by India to the G20 came within the framework of the prominent Emirati presence and role at all levels, and the close strategic relations between the two friendly countries.
Regarding the importance of the country’s participation in the summit, he stressed that the UAE is participating as a guest country for the second year in a row in the group’s meetings and summits, after its successful participation in the Indonesia Summit last year, and for the third time since 2020, explaining that the UAE is committed as a guest country to working with its international partners within the framework of The G20 works to promote economic growth and equitable development around the world.
He said that the UAE supports the agenda and strategy of the Republic of India during its hosting of the G20 summit, noting that the country participated in about 25 meetings held throughout the year, including the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting held in New Delhi, headed by His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, while The relevant ministers participated in the various tracks, in addition to the country’s attendance at all CHIBARPA meetings and working groups, and stressed the UAE’s commitment to contribute effectively to the G20 files under India’s presidency.
He explained that the G20 summit, which was held for the first time in 1999, is an annual gathering of representatives of the most important economic powers in the world and works to enhance international cooperation. The Indian presidency of the G20 adopts an ambitious plan under the slogan “One Land, One Family, One Future,” focusing on health emergencies. Preventing and preparing for them, with the aim of strengthening cooperation in the pharmaceutical industry sector and digital health innovations.
He pointed out that the UAE demonstrated its important and effective contributions to the priorities of the G20, during its participation as a guest country in the G20 in France in 2011, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 2020, Indonesia last year, and India this year, especially with regard to recovery after the Covid-19 pandemic, and the change in… Climate, energy transition, disaster risk reduction, debt exposure, and achieving the sustainable development goals.
Al Sayegh added that the UAE is committed in this context to supporting the global agenda and building partnerships that benefit the international community and future generations, and as an active guest country in the G20, it will continue to support the inclusiveness of multilateral organizations and international forums, by representing and supporting the needs of developing and less developed economies.
He pointed out that the UAE is also committed to actively contributing to the G20 files under India’s presidency, with a particular focus on key global agenda priorities such as climate change, energy and food security, women’s empowerment, and healthcare.
He pointed out that the UAE’s participation in the G20 this year is of particular importance as it coincides with the country’s hosting of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) in November in Expo City Dubai, as it provides an opportunity for greater compatibility between the G20 agenda and ( COP28, by exploiting the interplay between discussions and initiatives on climate action, energy transition and financing for sustainable development.
His Excellency explained that the UAE aims to play a pivotal role in promoting climate action and environmental priorities during its participation in the G20 process and to mobilize support from the group for the country’s leading initiatives in the field of climate change, including the “Crimea Alliance for Climate” and the “Global Alliance for the Green Economy.” », In addition to working with participants in the COP28 conference to triple renewable energy in the world and increase hydrogen production twice by 2030.
