The Moroccan national team scored 3 goals in the first half to crush its Ghanaian guest, 5-1, yesterday, Tuesday, at the “Moulay Abdallah” stadium in Rabat, in the U-23 African Cup of Nations, which is being held in the Kingdom.
The “Atlas Lions” qualified for the semi-finals of the continental tournament that qualifies for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Morocco topped the standings of Group A with 6 points to ensure qualification for the semi-finals, while Ghana fell to third place after freezing its balance at 3 points, behind on goal difference from the Guinea national team, which won 3-1 over Congo, bottom of the group standings, without a balance within the same group.
The “Atlas Lions” took the lead 7 minutes after the start, with a shot from midfielder Amir Richardson.
Ismail Sibari added the second goal in the 13th minute, before Yannis El Bakraoui added the landowner’s lead in the 30th minute.
Ghana narrowed the deficit two minutes before the end of the first half, with an Adams Slim shot. Then the Ghanaians scored a second goal in the last minute of the half, but the referee canceled it after using video technology.
Captain Abdel Samad Al-Zalzouli joined the list of scorers of the match when he scored the fourth goal 3 minutes after the start of the second half, after he followed a ball that the defense mishandled after a shot from Sybari.
El Bakraoui strengthened the Moroccans’ superiority with a fifth goal in the 53rd minute, after a counterattack and a cross from El Zalzouli.
