The Central Bank of the Emirates announced an increase in the number of employees in the banking sector in the country by the end of the first quarter of this year 2023.

And the Central Bank stated – in the statistical bulletin for March 2023 – that the number of bank employees increased to 36,314 employees at the end of last March, compared to 35,830 employees at the end of December last year, an increase of 1.4%, or the equivalent of 484 employees..

The number of bank employees in the country was distributed by 29,189 employees in national banks at the end of last March, with a growth rate of 1.6%, or the equivalent of 452 new employees, compared to 28,737 employees at the end of last year, in addition to 7,125 employees in foreign banks operating in the country. By the end of last March, with an increase of 0.5%, or the equivalent of 32 new employees, compared to 7,093 employees at the end of December 2022..

The number of employees in state banks witnessed a remarkable increase over the past years, from 33,444 employees at the end of 2020 to 33,491 employees at the end of 2021, reaching 35,830 employees at the end of 2022..

In a related context, the Central Bank indicated that the number of licensed commercial banks in the country reached 61 at the end of the first quarter of this year, including 22 national banks and 39 foreign banks..

The number of bank branches reached 566 at the end of the first quarter of this year, distributed by 494 branches of national banks and 72 branches of foreign banks..

The number of electronic banking service units affiliated with national banks increased to 47 units by the end of the first quarter of this year, while the number of exchange offices reached 21 offices, while the number of electronic banking service units for foreign banks remained at 21 units.
