Germany’s national football team director Rudi Voller defended coach Hansi Flick after the 2-0 defeat by the Colombian national team in the friendly match that took place on Tuesday, but warned that some players will not be called up again.
The German national team did not achieve any victory in its last 4 friendly matches, while it is preparing for the European Nations Cup “Euro 2024” scheduled for its home in June and July next year.
Media criticism of Hansi Flick escalated, who admitted after yesterday’s match in Gelsenkirchen that some of the things he tried did not work.
Fuller, striker and former coach of the German national team, said, “Hanzi Flick is unlucky in his behavior with regard to the players. He tried everything to ensure success.”
Fuller had assumed the position of manager of the German national team until Euro 2024, after Oliver Bierhoff was dismissed from the position following the exit from the group stage of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
“Maybe when I started I underestimated the low level, but the team is not as high quality as it was a few years ago,” Fuller added.
He continued, “We have really first-class players, but we also have players at lower levels, and I am sure that they will not participate in the European Championship.” Without specifying names, they gave their best and it will be difficult for them to participate in the European Championship and provide the required levels.
“Now we have to ensure that the right elements are called up for the national team in the upcoming international competitions,” Fuller added.
This is the fourth consecutive match in which coach Hansi Flick’s men fail to win after losing 3-2 to Belgium on March 28, drawing 3-3 with his Ukrainian counterpart and losing 1-0 to Poland.
The loss of Colombia deepened the ordeal of the “Manshafts”, and achieved a historic victory because it is the first for the “El Tricolor” team in the history of the five confrontations that have brought them together so far.
Colombia’s goals were scored by Juan Cuadrado, Juventus full back.
