SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – The last time temperatures were below average was on Feb. 28 when the high was 33 degrees. For the next 17 days temperatures have been above normal and at times well above normal. That streak ends today as highs struggle to hit the 40-degree mark.
And we are starting out on a chilly note this morning. Temperatures are in the mid to upper 20s but factor in the winds and wind chills are in the teens area wide. Jump 10 or so degrees from where you are early on and that will likely be your high today.
Two reasons why we will be chilly this afternoon. First off, clouds are moving in and although we will be mostly sunny later on, it will slow our warming down. Secondly, northwesterly winds are not pumping in any warm air either so that will limit our warming as well.
Speaking of cloud cover, we have seen flurries flying around early on today and more are expected into the morning and possibly the afternoon hours.
Now winds could gust up to 40 mph this afternoon, but we should a gradual decrease in the late evening and overnight period. Mostly clear skies are expected in this time as well.
By tomorrow afternoon skies will once again be mostly sunny with highs climbing into the mid 40s to low 50s. The warming trend will continue for one more day as we welcome the first day of spring with highs right around 60 degrees on Tuesday.
Enjoy that as much as you can because changes are coming to Siouxland. In terms of highs we will see low 50s midweek and low 40s possibly by the early part of the following week. We could see more precipitation as well with rain and snow chances popping up as early as Thursday with an unsettled period continuing into next weekend.
