Pickleball is the sport of the summer: where to watch the pro action in 2023

Forget beach days—pickleball seems to be everywhere this summer, and wherever we look, people are trading in their pool essentials for a workout in the sun.

And on days when you feel like sitting down instead of sweating it out, there are pickle events all over the US that you should check out.

You can cheer on pros like Ben Johns, Dekel Bar, Tyson McGuffin and more in the Vulcan Tournament of Champions and the USA Soccer Championship.

Best of all, tickets to all PPA events are available right here, right now.

Some of them are only $25 before fees on Vivid Seats, too.

Not familiar with bright seats?

Vivid Seats is a verified secondary market ticketing platform, prices may be above or below face value, depending on demand.

They offer a 100% buyer guarantee that your transaction will be safe and sound and your tickets will be delivered prior to the event.

All above prices are quoted at the time of publication and are subject to fluctuations.

What is Pickleball?

No wonder pickleball has become so popular with people of all ages. Rowing is perfect for playing in the sun: it’s tennis meets badminton meets table tennis and it’s a great way to socialize and tap into your competitive spirit. Not to mention, it’s relatively easier to pick up and do low-impact cardio than soccer or running.

But don’t be fooled – pickleball is still a great exercise. According to a 2016 study in Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, 12 middle-aged gamers burned 40% more calories during a 30-minute game of pickleball compared to about 30 minutes of walking.

Owner of the Las Vegas Night Owls, a professional pickleball team, Caitlin Kerr was set to become a professional soccer player before she injured her knee.

“I needed seven surgeries. I haven’t found a sport that doesn’t hurt my knees — even pickleball.”

“You filled a huge void for me. It is a sport that you can constantly learn. The desire to master it keeps people coming back.”

Pickleball for pride

In honor of Pride Month, Puma is hosting a “Pickleball for Pride” event at City Pickle, Wollman Rink in Central Park on Tuesday, June 20.

The event will feature pickleball coaches, racquets, snacks, drinks, and a host of BYOMA beauty products.

Bioma is known for its affordable, easy-to-access skincare products. For the second year in a row, they are partnering with GLSEN for this event, a nonprofit organization that supports LGBTQIA+ youth by creating safe and inclusive school environments. In honor of Pickleball for Pride, BYOMA is donating $20,000 to support the organization’s work.
