Patrick Mahomes is no stranger to defending his throne.
The two-time Super Bowl champion the Chiefs, widely recognized as the best quarterback in football in recent years, had to remind Bengals wide receiver Jamar Chase of that fact Thursday.
When the Bengals were widely asked about the best player in the NFL on Tuesday, he said it was his teammate, quarterback Joe Burrow — after Burrow gave the honor to Mahomes.
Upon hearing Boro’s answer, Chase joked, “Bat who?”
Mahomes, who received his second Super Bowl ring Thursday night in Kansas City, responded to Chase with an emphatic note: a tweet that showed two rings, with the caption, “This is it.”
The brewing rivalry between the Chiefs and Bengals has provided some of the best moments in the NFL in recent years; Cincinnati has won three of the last four encounters between the Super Bowl rivals over the past two seasons, including the AFC Championship Game in the 2021 season finale that sent the Bengals to Super Bowl LVI against the Rams.
But the Chiefs own their most recent win as they won the AFC Champions League title in January 23-20 to earn a berth in the Super Bowl.
Kansas City prevailed in Super Bowl LVII against the Eagles, winning 38-35 as Mahomes earned MVP honors in his second game.
The Bengals have not yet broken through to win a ring.
Mahomes wasn’t the only Chiefs player to get hilarious after Chase’s taunt.
Former Giants wide receiver Kadarius Toni also dug into Chase on Twitter, backing up the quarterback.
“I know who,” Tony wrote in response to Chase’s quote.
The Chiefs and Bengals will return to their rivalry on December 31, when they are set to match up in what has to be one of the best regular season games in the NFL this year.
Right now, it seems as though the Chiefs have the upper hand, both on the field and in the trash-talking game.
