Oakland A fans were vocal at the 2023 MLB All-Star Game in Seattle.
As the franchise prepares for a possible move from Oakland to Las Vegas, a group of fans has pushed owner John Fisher to sell the club and keep the team in the Bay Area.
Fans made sure to make their voices heard at the Midsummer Classic at T-Mobile Park as one fan Post a note card on Twitter From the outdoor bleachers titled “Sell The Athletics All-Star Game Protest #FisherOut.”
The other side of the card called for fans to stand during the first strikeout of the top of the fifth inning before the “Sell the team” chants began.
And sure enough, at the top of the fifth, fans could only be heard cheering.
But the noise didn’t stop there and continued into the next inning when A’s Brent Rucker stepped up to bat.
In the bottom of the sixth, Rucker tackled National League guard Alexis Diaz and doubled a double into right center field on outfielder Juan Soto as the cheers renewed.
It wasn’t the first time in Seattle that A’s fans had tried to make their voices heard.
In the first round of the 2023 MLB draft on Sunday, The fans started the same chant Like Jacob Wilson’s Chosen One.
In June, even as the team stumbled into last place out of the AL West, 27,000 fans showed up at the Oakland Coliseum as part of a reverse boycott that included coordinated cheers, T-shirts, and dozens of signs.
Even Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong — and an Oakland native — has backed the movement.
A number of former and current major league players have spoken out against the potential move, including Bryce Harper, a native of Las Vegas.
“I feel so sorry for the fans in Oakland,” Harper told USA Today in June. “this is not true. They have a lot of history in Auckland. You take out a team from a city. I am so sad because of all the history and all the greatness they saw there.”
The A’s have been in Oakland since 1968 but are on track to move to Las Vegas for their Tropicana hotel location.
