Thomas Tuchel, coach of Bayern Munich, the German Football League champion, does not expect his veteran international goalkeeper Manuel Neuer to participate in the confrontation at Werder Bremen after five weeks at the start of the Bavarian club’s career in the new season of the Bundesliga.
“I think his participation in the German Super Cup and the first match of the Bundesliga is a very ambitious goal,” Tuchel said in a press conference today, Saturday. “Given the seriousness of the injury and its unusual nature, we just need patience.”
Tuchel confirmed that Neuer will not participate in Bayern Munich’s Asian tour between July 24 and August 3, which includes three friendly matches in Tokyo and Singapore.
Neuer returned to Bayern Munich training last Tuesday after recovering from a leg fracture he suffered last December.
Bayern begins its campaign in the new season by meeting cup champion Leipzig, in the German Super Cup match on August 12, before the team that won the Bundesliga title in the past 11 years opens its campaign in the local league six days later by meeting its host Werder Bremen.
On the other hand, Tuchel confirmed that Dutch international Matthijs de Ligt will return to training within days after suffering a calf injury during his participation with his country last month.
