At the time when the team revealed its shirt for the next season 2023-2024, Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp explained how much the team’s current awakening helped qualify for the Champions League next season, expecting that fourth-placed Manchester United would not falter in its home matches.

Liverpool won 5 consecutive matches to advance to fifth place in the Premier League standings, 4 points behind United, who has a postponed match, but Klopp does not expect his opponent to lose points.
“The other teams are in much better positions, and as long as they win matches, we have no chance,” Klopp told reporters before tomorrow’s match against ninth-placed Brentford. We have to keep the teams behind us. We have 59 points and United have 63, so we can get a maximum of 71 (at the end of the season). United need 8 out of 15 points in 5 games and I think they will do that.
“We have enough to do with ourselves,” the German coach added. Tomorrow will be a tough Brentford game. In theory we can completely dominate the game but a set-piece can kill you.”

However, Klopp said they will push hard for the remainder of the season.
“If our performance puts pressure on other teams that are not in our hands,” he said. The way the Golden Square clubs played this season, none of them seem to lose more matches than they win.”
“For us the plan is to finish the season as high as possible, which now means fifth place. Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur and Brentford are all fighting for sixth place and so are we.

James Milner is expected to leave Liverpool after eight years at the end of the season and Klopp showed how much he appreciated the 37-year-old midfielder.
The German coach commented, “He is an incredible part of this team and I wish I could work with him for a longer period. Nothing will change. Nothing in the last seven and a half years and positive things would not have happened without James Milner.”
Klopp indicated that the condition of Diego Jota and captain Jordan Henderson will be assessed before the match, while Roberto Firmino remains absent.
He explained that midfielder Thiago Alcantara is expected to be fit for the pre-season preparation period after undergoing thigh surgery.
