FIFA President: The African League Championship is a quantum leap for football

FIFA President Gianni Infantino confirmed that the first edition of the African League Championship will enhance the status of the game on the continent.

Infantino said, in statements to the official website of FIFA today, Sunday, that the African League will enhance the status of the game, and that competition will play a major and effective role in a quantum leap for African football to the next level, by providing an ideal platform for players and clubs to compete with each other.

While the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, confirmed that the African League Championship is a great step to ensure that African football has clubs competing at the global level.

Yesterday, Saturday, in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, the draw for the first edition of the African League was held, and resulted in strong confrontations as follows:

  • Al-Ahly of Egypt against Simba Tanzanian
  • Tunisian Esperance vs Congolese Mazembe
  • Nigerian Anyimba against Moroccan Wydad Casablanca
  • South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns vs Angola’s Petro Atletico.

The African League Championship is a partnership between CAF and FIFA, and the semi-final matches of the tournament will be held between October 29 and November 1, with the final version of two matches taking place on the fifth and eleventh of November of this year.
