After the break, the Ostkurve put the first exclamation mark with a choreo in honor of fan friendship. No less spectacular was Ernst’s clearance against Igor Matanović’s header, which required our goalkeeper to stretch (47′). What followed was mostly idle play with no compelling opportunities in either penalty area. It was only a playback error by Drewes, which Niederlechner attacked energetically, that paved the way for Reese. However, our offensive power only hit the right inside post, from where the pill jumped back into the field (61′).
Missed preliminary decision
Before the final phase began, Márton Dárdai had to go down injured, and Florian Niederlechner was also off work. Bouchalakis and Smail Prevljak took over for their colleagues (70th). Our Old Lady was safe at the back, but failed to score a third goal offensively to secure the preliminary decision. After a one-two with Prevljak, Tabaković aimed just wide of the post from a tight angle (78′). The hard-working Pascal Klemens first left his opponent standing, but then hit the artificial leather over the crossbar (79th). And so it happened as it had to happen: First Ernst made a sensational save against Matanović (80′), but he had no chance when Jensen’s shot was deflected twice (81′). Derry Scherhant replaced Winkler in the last minutes (85′), but the Joker couldn’t tip the result in our favor. It remained 2-2 against the guests from the fan-shaped city.
The Dárdai players now go into the international break with 17 points. After the weekend off, our Berliners will be playing at Hannover 96 (11/24/23, 6:30 p.m.).
