Casper Ruud isn’t precise about how he feels about the grass court season.
After finishing runner-up to Novak Djokovic at Roland Garros last month, Ruud has decided to take the next three weeks off to play golf and take part in some well-deserved R&R matches rather than play any pre-Wimbledon events.
It was the second year in a row that the Norwegian chose to forgo any grass tennis tournaments ahead of his third Grand Slam tournament of the year.
This public indifference to grass court tennis certainly played its part in making Ruud an unfavorable candidate at Wimbledon despite the fact that he is seeded fourth.
Casper Roode vs. Choice Liam Brody
The other reason no one seems interested in charging exorbitant prices for Rudd is that he has never gone above 4-6 in his career on grass and never made it past the second round at Wimbledon in his career.
Rudd’s deduction on Wednesday is a very different situation. Liam Brodie, a 29-year-old Englishman, has played 76 professional matches on grass courts, and although his record is not great (28-48) he has plenty of experience over the Norwegian.

That gap – plus the fact that Brody will have the crowd on his side – is enough for me to realize the big price on Wednesday.
