The Denver Broncos may have just gotten their most definitive indication yet that running back Javonte Williams will be ready to go into training camp.
The Broncos is running back from a torn ACL and LCL in his right knee that he suffered during an Oct. 2 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders last season.
Williams said Sunday that he expects to be cleared by the start of training camp and to be part of some practice following reports from the team’s veterans on July 25.
“I mean, that’s the plan. “I feel ready to go,” Williams told reporters, according to ESPN.
The Broncos confirmed that Williams would be ready to go into training camp, and his words seemed to back up that confidence.
Williams was training with a brace on his operated knee, and he also said he felt like he had taken away the mental hurdles that come with an injury like that.
Williams, 23, has been talking with various Broncos players who have had similar injuries, including wide receiver Tim Patrick and linebacker Aaron Patrick.
“Just the mental part,” Williams said, “is being able to move like it’s your entire life.” “For the first couple of months, you were kind of sitting in bed trying to get him to bend over again. This is the hardest part. [But] This is what I should be, this is what I have been all my life. I don’t want to go back on the court to play scared or shy, so when I get back out there I want to be 100%.”
Williams was part of the NFL’s All-Rookie Team in 2021 and had three touchdowns for 903 yards that first year.
He had amassed 204 yards last season when he got injured in Week 4.
