A prospective project revealed the Ministry of Justice’s intention to make amendments to the legal system to allow foreign law firms to practice consulting related to Saudi laws. The Ministry put forward a draft amendment to Article 51 for the poll. Which included that the foreign law firm can practice consultations related to the Saudi laws that are provided through a lawyer registered in the list of practicing lawyers in accordance with the provisions of this system.
Whereas, the current Article 51 of the Advocacy Law stipulates that a foreign law firm licensed to practice the legal profession in the Kingdom, which takes the form contained in Paragraph 1 of Article 50 of this Law, shall practice all business related to the practice of the profession, taking into account the limitation of pleading on behalf of others before the aforementioned authorities. referred to in Article 1 of this Law to the Saudi lawyer registered in the Roll of Practicing Lawyers, as stipulated in Article 18 of the Law.
The same article also limited the work of a foreign law firm licensed to practice the legal profession in the Kingdom, which takes the form contained in Paragraph 2 of Article 50 of this system, to practice consultations related to international law, and consultations related to non-Saudi systems that are provided through a licensed lawyer. By providing legal advice related to it, and arbitration, mediation and conciliation services; According to the provisions regulating this, and the consultations provided for specific or specialized projects, or for studies in the field of legislation.
