After recently having two defeats in a row our blue and white ones celebrated an unchallenged victory in the Northeast Women’s Regional League. On Sunday, coach Manuel Meister’s team beat Bischofswerdaer FV 3-0 (3-0) in front of a fan who had traveled from Edinburgh. “It was a very confident performance in which we managed to implement the training content. We had a good build-up to the game and found solutions with the ball against a very deep opponent,” said our coach after the final whistle.
A tailor-made start
His players set the course for victory early on at August-Bier-Platz II. Already in the third minute, Lilli Genthe made it 1-0 after a nice pass from Elfie Wellhausen. Just six turns of the pointer later, the goal scorer shone as an assist and made it 2-0 for Anouk Westphal (9th). Lenina Burghardt had previously introduced the situation cleverly. The agile Spree Athenians subsequently had further chances to increase the result. A long-range shot from Burghardt rushed over the box (21′). Our colors were still able to celebrate before the break: Genthe recorded her second assist, Wellhausen made it 3-0 – already their eighth goal of the season (33rd). “We scored our goals well,” praised Meister.
After the break, our girls continued to control the game. Only countable things no longer wanted to pop out. Elina Frieauff hit the post with a powerful shot (63′), Wellhausen’s shot was just wide, but was offside anyway (65′). At the beginning of the final phase, Frieauff tried again, but the opposing goalkeeper also defused this attempt (75th). So in the end it was 3-0 and our sixth success, with our Hertha team climbing to fifth place, at least temporarily, after ten match days. “We also had opportunities in the second half, but we lacked a little bit of consistency in the penalty area. Nevertheless, I am satisfied because we were able to give players development opportunities under competitive conditions who are always training but have not yet had so much playing time,” said our trainer, who concluded. “We have seen in the previous weeks in which areas we need to improve. We were better in this game, but still not where we want to be.”
